Coaching and Advising

A spectrum of inquiry

What is coaching?

What is advising?

I see coaching and advising as different points on the same spectrum of collaborative inquiry. What does this mean in practice? When coaching, I ask questions to facilitate the client's investigation of what they need and want.  When advising, I also ask questions, working with the client to find the root of the problem at hand.

The big difference between coaching and advising is that advising (very literally) entails giving advice. Once the problem is understood, I will draw from my own experience to suggest solutions, explaining why certain solutions have or have not worked for me in the past.

In coaching, the answers all come from the client. I'm there to encourage the client to look past the surface challenges and surface solutions. Only by peeling back these onions can we discover the answers that our true self already understands.

Fractional and Interim Engineering Leadership

Helping your organization mature and grow

Your previous and current leaders have taken you a long way, but how do you take your organization to the next level?

How do you hire leaders who have led more mature organizations than any of your leadership team? What are you looking for? How do you know when you've found it?

If you're asking these questions, you should consider a Fractional or Interim leader. Someone who has been through the growing pains you are experiencing and has cultivated organizations that look a lot like your ideal.
